ServicesBasement Cleanouts
Basement Cleanouts in Decatur
We empty basements down to bare concrete: mildewed boxes, swollen particleboard furniture, dead freezers and leftover building scraps. Our crew carries it up the stairs, protects the walls on the way and sweeps the floor before we leave, so you can use the space again or start repairs.

When a basement cleanout is the right call
A basement collects the things nobody wanted to decide about. Over a few years that becomes stacked cardboard, a broken treadmill, a sofa from two moves ago and paint cans from the last owner. Because basements sit below grade, they also hold moisture. Cardboard wicks it up from the slab, particleboard swells and delaminates, and fabric starts to smell. Once that happens, the pile is no longer storage. It is material that needs to leave.
Many homes around Decatur and nearby towns like Avondale Estates and Druid Hills have older basements with tight stairs, low joists and a single walkout door, which is why hauling heavy items out yourself goes badly. We plan the route first, then move everything out in an order that keeps the stairs clear. You get an empty, swept basement that is ready for a waterproofing contractor, a finish-out or simply your own use.
What our basement cleanouts include
- Full haul-out from every corner
- We remove loose junk, boxed items, shelving units and anything stuffed under the stairs or behind the water heater. You point, and we carry it out.
- Heavy items up tight stairs
- Old chest freezers, pool tables, sleeper sofas and treadmills are the hard part of any basement. We disassemble what comes apart, strap what doesn't and use furniture dollies and lifting straps sized for narrow stairways.
- Water-damaged material
- Moldy cardboard, rolled carpet and soaked pad, swollen MDF shelving and warped paneling all go. We bag loose wet debris so it doesn't shed across your floors on the way out.
- Protection for walls and floors
- We lay runners on finished floors and pad door frames and stair walls before the first trip. Old plaster and painted drywall in stairwells chip easily, so we treat that path carefully.
- Sorting for donation and recycling
- Usable furniture can go to donation, and scrap metal from old appliances and bed frames goes to recycling rather than the landfill. Tell us what you want kept, and we set it aside.
- Sweep-out at the end
- When the space is empty, we sweep the slab so you can see the floor, the walls and any cracks or water lines clearly.
Signs your basement needs a cleanout
A musty smell that won't go away
That odor usually comes from mildew growing in cardboard, upholstery or carpet pad. Running a dehumidifier helps the air, but it won't save material that's already grown mildew.
Boxes soft at the bottom
If the lowest box in a stack sags or tears when you lift it, moisture has been wicking up from the slab. Everything in contact with the floor is likely affected.
You can't reach the mechanicals
Your furnace, water heater and electrical panel need clear access. Technicians and inspectors need room to work, and blocked equipment is a fire and safety problem.
A repair or renovation is coming
Waterproofing crews, foundation contractors and framers need an empty space. Clearing it beforehand keeps their bid simple and their schedule on track.
You're selling or settling an estate
A full basement makes a house look smaller and hides the condition of the walls and floor. Buyers and their inspectors want to see the foundation.
What sets the cost of a basement cleanout
We price basement jobs mostly on how much truck space the load fills and how hard it is to bring out. You get the number at the estimate, before any work begins. Same-day and next-day service is available.
Amount of material
How much there is matters most. A few pieces of furniture cost much less than a basement packed from wall to wall.
Stairs and access
A walkout door at ground level goes quickly. A steep inside staircase with a turn and a low ceiling takes longer and more hands for each item.
Heavy and oversized items
Pianos, cast-iron tubs, safes and full-size freezers take extra labor and sometimes an extra crew member.
Wet or damaged material
Soaked drywall and carpet weigh far more than dry material, and loose wet debris has to be bagged before it can be moved.
How a basement job goes
- 1
Free estimate at your home
We check the volume, the stairs, the door widths and any heavy pieces. You get upfront pricing with no hidden fees before work begins.
- 2
Plan the route and protect it
On job day we choose the shortest way out, often a walkout door if the house has one, and put down floor runners and padding along it.
- 3
Carry out in order
We take the bulky pieces nearest the exit first so the path stays open. Shelving and furniture get broken down when that helps, and the truck is loaded as we work.
- 4
Sweep and walk through
We sweep the floor, then go through the basement with you to confirm that everything meant to go is gone and anything you kept is where you want it.

Questions about basement cleanouts
Should I be home for the cleanout?
Being there at the start helps so you can show us what leaves and what stays. Lots of customers tape the things they are keeping and then head out. When the job is finished, we walk through with you.
Will you take paint cans and chemicals out of the basement?
Open cans of liquid paint, solvents, pesticides and propane cylinders need their own disposal and can't ride in our truck with regular debris. We flag them at the estimate and tell you how to deal with them. Latex paint cans that have fully dried out are usually fine.
Do you haul out moldy items?
Yes. We take moldy boxes, furniture, carpet and loose debris, bagging the worst of it to hold in dust and spores. We do not remediate mold on walls or framing; once the basement is empty, a remediation contractor is the one to call for that.
What if something gets damaged on the stairs?
We are licensed and insured, and we pad door frames and stairwells before carrying anything out. Those two things together protect old trim and plaster on a tight basement path.
How long have you been in business?
Since 2021, and customers have left us over 1,200 Google reviews. Basements are a large share of our jobs, along with garage cleanouts and furniture removal.
