Storage Unit Cleanouts in Decatur
Paying rent on a unit full of things you no longer use adds up every month. We load out the whole unit, sort what can be donated or recycled, haul the rest, and sweep the floor so you can return the key and stop the billing.

When a Storage Unit Cleanout Makes Sense
Most storage units start as a short-term fix during a move, a renovation or an estate settlement. Years later the boxes are still there, the monthly charge keeps posting and nobody wants to spend a weekend sorting a 10x20 in the heat. A cleanout ends that. We do the lifting and the hauling, and you decide what, if anything, comes home with you.
Our crews have been doing this work since 2021, and we know the details that slow a storage job down: gate access windows, elevator reservations at multi-story facilities, and rules that bar tenants from using the facility dumpster. We plan around those before the truck shows up.
What Our Storage Unit Cleanouts Include
- Full load-out by our crew
- We carry everything from the back wall to the door: furniture, boxed goods, mattresses, exercise equipment, loose shelving. You do not need to stage anything at the front of the unit.
- Sorting on site
- Tell us what to keep and we set it aside or load it separately for delivery to your home. Usable furniture and household goods are pulled out for donation where possible, and metal items like bed frames and shelving go to recycling.
- Handling damaged contents
- Cardboard boxes in a unit without climate control often soften and collapse after a few humid summers, and fabric can pick up mildew. We bag broken and moldy contents so they do not spill across the hallway or the loading area.
- Sweep-out for move-out inspection
- Many facilities check the unit before closing the account and may charge a cleaning fee if debris is left behind. We sweep the floor and remove loose packing material so the space is ready for that walk-through.
- Responsible disposal
- What cannot be donated or recycled goes to a proper disposal site, not the facility dumpster. That keeps you clear of any fines the facility may assess for unauthorized dumping.
Signs It Is Time to Clear Out Your Unit
You cannot name what is inside
If you have not opened the unit in a year and cannot list its contents, the rent has likely passed the value of what is stored.
Rent increases keep arriving
Facilities often raise rates on long-term tenants. Each increase makes a cleanout pay for itself sooner.
Boxes are sagging or smell musty
Soft cardboard, water rings on the floor or a sour smell mean moisture has gotten in. Paper goods and upholstered furniture degrade quickly once that starts.
A move-out deadline is coming
Closing an account, consolidating units or settling a relative's estate usually comes with a fixed date. A crew can clear in a few hours what would take you several trips.
Pests have found it
Droppings, chewed boxes or nesting material mean the contents need to be bagged and hauled, not hand-sorted piece by piece.
What Affects the Price of a Storage Unit Cleanout
Our pricing is upfront, set at the estimate, and based on how much truck space your items fill plus the labor to get them there. Two units of the same size can price very differently depending on what is inside and where the unit sits.
Volume of contents
A 5x10 packed to the ceiling may hold more than a half-empty 10x20. We price the load, not the square footage of the unit.
Unit location in the facility
A drive-up ground floor unit loads fast. An interior unit on an upper floor means cart runs and elevator time, which adds labor.
Heavy or special items
Pianos, safes, solid wood dressers and appliances take more crew time. Paint, fuel and propane tanks need separate handling, so mention them on the call.
Sorting and condition
Clear instructions keep the job quick. Item-by-item sorting, or bagging moldy and pest-damaged contents, takes longer.
How the Cleanout Day Runs
- 1
Free on-site estimate
We meet you at the facility, look inside the unit and give you an upfront price based on the volume and the type of items. There is no obligation and no hidden fees added later.
- 2
Access planned ahead
We confirm gate hours, any elevator or loading dock booking, and whether you or the facility office needs to grant us entry. If you cannot be there, a gate code and the unlocked unit are usually enough.
- 3
Sort and load
The crew separates keep, donate, recycle and dispose piles, then loads the truck in that order. Kept items can go straight to your home.
- 4
Sweep and hand back
We sweep the empty unit and send you photos so you can confirm it is clear before you close the account.

Storage Unit Cleanout Questions
Do I need to be at the facility during the cleanout?
No. Many customers live out of town or are handling a relative's unit. If the facility allows it, you can give us the gate code and leave the unit unlocked, or call the office to authorize our crew. We send photos when the unit is empty.
Can you bring some items to my home?
Yes. Point out what you want to keep, and we load those items separately and drop them off at your home on the same trip. Everything else goes to donation, recycling or disposal.
Can I just use the facility's dumpster to save money?
Most facilities prohibit tenants from dumping household contents in their dumpster and may charge a fee if they find it. We haul everything off the property so that is not a concern for you.
My facility wants proof of coverage from any vendor. Can you send it?
Yes. We are licensed and insured, and some facilities ask for paperwork before they let an outside crew through the gate. Give us the office contact when you call and we will get the documents to them ahead of the job.
How soon can you clear my unit?
Same-day and next-day service are available depending on the schedule. If your move-out date is fixed, tell us when you call and we will plan the cleanout around it.
